Roleplaying Tournament
So, time and scheduling permitted, I will be running a Roleplaying Tournament, probably the week after Highland Games(which would make this three weeks from now, IIRC), at the park. The format is a 3-man-team tournament, in a single-elimination format, with objective-based competitive play for each round, and individual players will be awarded prizes in the final round based on their total scores.
Signing Up:
1) Players may sign up individually, or as part of a pre-organized three-person team. If you aren't on a team when the tourney starts, I will match you with other people until everyone is in a team.
2) Teams consist of 3 players, of which no more than one is a magic class.
3) All classes may be played(if you could play the class normally), and additionally, players may choose to play .5/1 or 1/1 ratio Monsters, with approval of the tournament organizer.
Tournament Structure:
1) Teams will be paired randomly for team vs. team encounters in the first round, with further rounds determined by brackets.
2) The winning team of each round is the team who accrues the most "points" during the encounter. 5 points are awarded to each team member for completing the assigned objective(see below), and point awards are given to individual players in one-point increments at the reeves' discretion during play.
3) The winner of the tournament is the player on the winning team who has the most points out of that team, with 2nd place for the 2nd most points, and 3rd for the fewest points on that team.
4) Prizes are awarded to the top three placing participants.
Game Rules:
1) At the start of each round, both teams are assigned a random "quest objective", which may range from being as simple as "acquire [object] from [location]", to as complicated as "hold [location] for [time period] while you have [object]." While completion of the objective is not necessary to win the round, it is worth 5 points for each team member, so it can significantly sway the outcome of the round.
2) The reeve(s) may give 1-point awards to players who portray a chosen role or persona with excellence.
3) The reeve(s) may give 1-point awards to players who roleplay events during the encounter- such as being killed- and to players who initiate non-combat roleplay, such as trading for hostages or bribery.
4) Players may be awarded time off from their death count, extra lives, or game items, at the discretion of the reeve(s).
5) The reeve(s) and other players reserve the right to laugh at inept people(it *is* a tournament, after all)
6) The tournament organizer reserves the right to make up new rules as needed.
Prizes are, as usual, flurb weapons, with very customized designs. These are superior to the ones I gave out for the ninja quest last fall, largely due to increased experience in technique(and I will have them complete BEFORE the competition this time, so you get your prize on the same day). I do, however, need at least 12 people to play in order for this to work. You can sign up ahead of time, by posting in this thread, talking to me in person, emailing me, et cetera.

Bump
Just a reminder that I will be running this next Saturday(May 23rd).
I am in the process of completing the prizes, they will probably be done tomorrow night. I would normally charge like $20-30 for these, so you are getting a very nice prize if you win.
The whole tourney should last about half an hour. Remember, the more volunteer reeves I get, the fairer the scores will be(theoretically).
Ideally, sign-ups will close at 1 PM and we will be started no more than five minutes after that. If you show up before then, you can have a sneak peak at the prizes, and you also will have a better selection of team-mates, which could mean a lot since this is a team competition.
Remember, although fighting skills can help you a lot, you don't need to be a good fighter to win. Everybody has a chance of winning.
If you have questions, comments, concerns, or other things to say, feel free to email me(or come ask questions at Fighter Practice).

Postponed?
We didn't have enough participants this past Saturday, so I couldn't run this game as planned. If we get enough people and have the time, I will try again next Saturday.
Barring that, I may just randomly give out free weapons at court. Some of you will ask "Why?", and my response will be "Why not?"
